Activities 2012 - 2013: School projects and experimentation in dialogues youth-elected representatives

The French Commission of coordination has proposed to all the schools that participated last year to have local activities this year. A guide with methodological elements was sent to them. The team is accompanying closely three schools (one secondary and two high schools) in their local activities, especially on the aspect ‘dialogue with the elected representatives'. More information soon.

Activities 2011-2012:

Five academies participated this year, with 36 schools (secondary and high schools). Local conferences were organized in the schools from January to March. The national conference took place in Autrans, on March 25 and 26, gathering 70 delegates.

Activities 2010-2011:

This school-year, two accademies participated, with 16 schools. The challenge was to develop activities without any international event, and it worked very well!

Conf Nat 2011_Vercors atelier_energie_web.JPGThe National Conference, on 12 and 13 May 2011, was an opportunity for the young people to meet during two days and discuss the following topics: energy use and renewable energy sources, natural resources, energy consumption and waste management, solidarity and citizenship.

Activities 2009-2010: International Conference Brasilia 2010 - Preparation process in France

In France, two regions are involved: the Rhône-Alpes region (13 schools) and the Île de France region (6 schools). The young participants are aged from 11 to 18 (for the national and European stages). Some schools work with only one class, others with several classes or with voluntary pupils being part of "Clubs for Sustainable Development".
The process is coordinated by the organization Monde Pluriel, based in Grenoble, in partnership with the rectorat of Grenoble academy (Regional Education Offices).

Each school has organized a local conference in the course of March. During this event, the youth chose three responsibilities and actions, and three representing delegates were elected for the National Conference. Only 16 schools out of 19 presented delegates candidatures for the International Conference in Brasilia, due to age or parental authorization issues.

A total of 110 persons, among which 57 youth, met in Grenoble last March 30, 2010 for the National Conference.
The objectives of this meeting were:
- to exchange on the different projects conducted within the schools on climate changes issues (projects presented in the morning)
- to discuss on the responsibilities and actions carried out by each school
- to share the responsibilities and write collectively the national Charter of responsibilities towards the (natural, economic, social and cultural) environment
- to elect the 10 delegates that will participate in the International Conference of Brasilia.

During the morning, the youth presented their projects. The presentations, very diverse and interesting, were on different issues: climate refugees, production of wind turbines, school environmental evaluations, climate warming impact in the mountains, etc.

At lunch, a regional cooperative served a French-Brazilian meal, with bio and local products.
During the afternoon, the responsibilities and actions were gathered and the youth divided in thematic workshops (water, earth, air, energy, socioeconomic challenges), where they made a synthesis, along with the facilitators. The French Charter "Let's take care the Planet" is therefore composed of the summarized responsibilities and actions, being altogether representative of the 5 pillars of Sustainable Development.

The selection of the delegates for the International Conference was based on the completed projects and not on the candidates’ personality. An evaluation grid for each project was thus distributed to each youth who could then judge each group’s performance when it presented its project.
To respect a geographical equity, 3 delegates of Île de France and 7 delegates of Rhône-Alpes were selected for the International Conference.
